Registered Nurse - Correctional Facility (Travel/Contract)

Location: Romulus, New York
Contract Length: 26 weeks (6 months)
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Description

• Provide direct nursing care to incarcerated individuals.
• Coordinate and supervise Graduate Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and direct care staff.
• Conduct health assessments and develop/implement nursing care plans.
• Diagnose and treat responses to actual or potential health problems through nursing services such as case-finding, health teaching, counseling, and supportive/restorative care.
• Consult with treatment teams before administering treatments and nursing procedures.
• Participate as a member of interdisciplinary healthcare teams and health-related committees.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• ACLS.
• BLS issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• 1 year of nursing experience within the last year, excluding Home Health, Hospice, and School Services settings.

Background and Health Requirements

• Criminal background checks covering the last 7 years of locations lived, worked, or attended school (including SSN trace, county, state, national criminal, and sex offender searches).
• 5-year criminal background check within 6 months of start.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months prior to start (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD accepted; if positive PPD, negative chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire required).
• Annual TB questionnaire required.
• Vaccination documentation or titers required for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (vaccination, titers, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Drug testing (9-panel) within 1 year of start; instant tests acceptable.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination for 2025-26.
• COVID-19 booster preferred but not required.

Additional Notes

• Medicaid enrollment documentation is not required for this facility.
• The criminal history form is time sensitive and must be completed first; the candidate cannot start until cleared.
• Fingerprinting procedures and background checks are strictly enforced and must be completed as specified.
• Patience is required during the background clearance process due to potential delays.

This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with experience in correctional or similar healthcare settings who are comfortable working night shifts and meeting comprehensive background and health screening requirements.
