Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Operating Room
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of experience in the specialty. This is a travel/contract position with rotating days off (no set or consecutive days), on-call 2–3 days per month, including weekends and holidays as needed.

- Specialties include: Neurology, Oral, ENT, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Bariatrics, Urology, Gynecology, Vascular, Robotics, Plastics, Dental, Podiatry
- Special equipment used: Intuitive DaVinci XI, Neptune, Electrical Surgical Unit, Smoke Free Cautery Devices, Stryker Video Tower, Tourniquet, Cori Orthopedic Robot, Olympus Endoscopy Tower, Globus
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Schedule
- Rotating days off (no set or consecutive days)
- On-call 2–3 days per month
- Weekends and holidays as needed
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination every 10 years
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or positive antibody titers required (no exemptions)
- Hepatitis B vaccination or titer or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer required
- Seasonal flu vaccination required for new candidates starting October through March (no exemptions)
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
Background and Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 90 days of start, including multi-county and nationwide searches
- Employment application and 7 years of work history
- Two professional references from employment within 12 months (one must be a supervisor)
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Facility-specific competency exams and online modules must be completed prior to or during orientation
- Duke Guest Account setup required prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems
Additional Notes
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and documentation requirements
- Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some documentation waived or accepted on file
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided during orientation for applicable units
- Pass/fail testing (EKG/Medication) required on the first day of orientation (not applicable to RRTs)
