Job Opportunity: PreOp Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Position in Preoperative and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (Preop/PACU)
  • Shift: 10 hours per day, 4 days per week (6:30 AM - 5:00 PM)
  • No weekends, no call, no nights, no major holidays
  • Scheduled day off based on department needs; special requests considered
  • May be required to float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block scheduling not available; weekly day off

Patient Population & Unit Details

  • Unit includes 10 RNs and 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT)
  • 20 bays for pre/post patients, 2 ORs, 2 GI procedural rooms, 1 VIR procedural room
  • Patient types include Orthopedics (total joints, arthroscopy, hand, shoulder & elbow cases), Interventional Radiology (VIR), and GI scopes (upper and lower)
  • Responsibilities include prepping patients for surgery, reviewing history, medication reconciliation, vital signs, EKGs, IV starts, FSBS, administering fluids/antibiotics/medications, monitoring post-anesthesia recovery, and discharging patients

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in PreOp / PACU - Post Anesthesia Care
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Additional Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year history and various federal/state registries
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder if needed
  • Physical exam updated annually
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health documentation including:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug test within 90 days prior to start
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start
  • Proof of 2 clinical references and employment verification for last 3 clinical employers
  • Passport-style photo for badge

Work Environment & Notes

  • Fast-paced environment working closely with surgeons, anesthesia, and OR nurses
  • No weekend or holiday shifts required
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; hours may be adjusted accordingly
  • Local candidates within 60 miles accepted

This is a travel/contract RN position in PreOp/PACU with a 13-week assignment in Charleston, SC. The role requires at least 1 year of RN experience, SC or compact RN licensure, and current ACLS and BLS certifications. The schedule is 4 days a week, 10-hour shifts with no weekends or call.
