ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Seattle, Washington
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Patient Ratio: 1:2
Job Description
- Care for Cardiac ICU patients and overflow from Medical ICU, Trauma ICU, and Neuro ICU with a focus on cardiology.
- Floating to other ICUs and border areas is expected.
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend; flexibility for unit needs requested.
- Manager prefers to avoid travel pairs.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington.
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year.
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Facility & Work Environment
- Magnet-designated, teaching hospital, Level I Trauma center.
- Unit staffed with 23 beds.
- Charting system: Epic (hard stop required).
- Scrub color: Blue (facility provided or bring own solid color).
- On-call not required.
- No block scheduling accommodations.
- Locals accepted without radius restrictions.
- Return to work restrictions: no more than 6 days off between shifts.
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may cancel 1 shift per 2-week pay period.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start, including nationwide, sex offender, FACIS Level 1, and state-specific searches.
- Education verification required for Med Lab Techs (not applicable here).
- WA WATCH search required for all candidates.
- Drug screening within past 12 months required by agency (not required by facility).
- Two professional references required (from direct supervisors, not charge RNs).
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start (agency requirement, not facility).
- Mask fit test within 12 months of start (specific mask models required).
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or documented declination.
- Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive TB history. Annual TB questionnaire required.
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination; vaccine series plus confirmatory titer required)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Sept 29 - Mar 31).
- COVID vaccination or declination required for tracking purposes.
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with minimum 80% score required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for ICU nurses; must pass with 80% minimum, max 2 attempts.
- Orientation testing is pass/fail with 80% passing score; failure results in cancellation.
- Annual stroke education modules required for ICU and neuro units.
Additional Facility-Specific Documents & Requirements
- Badge photo meeting professional criteria required.
- Must sign facility-specific job description, license acknowledgment, equipment safety form, health history form, policies and procedures acknowledgment, PCIS agreement, personal data form, and code of conduct acknowledgment.
- WA multi-state licensed nurses must complete suicide prevention training and demographic attestation prior to start.
- License complaint clearance required for WA state license holders.
Parking & Transportation
- Onsite parking available with daily fees ($15 M-F days, reduced rates evenings/weekends).
- Offsite parking option with 10-minute shuttle service (weekdays only, 5 AM - 10 PM).

- First-time travelers without prior travel experience are not auto-approved but may be screened if they have trauma experience.
- Floating to other ICU units and border areas is expected.
- Flexibility for weekend shifts and unit needs is required.
- No block scheduling or on-call duties.
This position is ideal for experienced critical care RNs with prior travel experience seeking a challenging ICU role in a high-acuity, teaching, Level I trauma environment.
