Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Registered Nurse)

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN)
  • Start Dates: 4/21 starts considered
  • Interviews conducted virtually
  • Schedule: No block scheduling; must have open availability
  • Weekend Requirement: Every 5th weekend required
  • Floating: Yes, to Postpartum unit
  • Charting System: EPIC required
  • Scrubs: Royal Blue

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS issued by American Heart Association
  • AWHONN Intermediate
  • FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Experience with EPIC charting system

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation sessions held bi-weekly
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided during orientation (valid for 2 years)
  • Unit-specific competency exams required

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, and international searches if applicable
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Immunizations and health requirements:
    • Flu vaccine (mandatory)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or positive titer (no exemptions)
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Polio vaccine or signed attestation
  • Two professional references required from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
  • Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must set up a guest account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
  • Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some documentation accepted on file
  • Open availability and flexibility required due to floating and weekend requirements
