Pediatric Behavioral Health Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Helena, Montana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide nursing care primarily to children and adolescents with behavioral health needs, including suicidal ideations, ADHD, and spectrum disorders.
- Work night shifts with every other weekend required.
- Charting system: Epic.
- Facility operates 24/7 with an 82-bed capacity focused on pediatric behavioral health.
Required Qualifications
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Pediatric Behavioral Health)
- Experience: Minimum 1+ year of behavioral health/psychiatric nursing experience in pediatrics.
- Milieu management experience required.
- Current, valid RN license for Montana.
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC required
- CPR (BLS and First Aid; First Aid must be in-person)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – as required by unit
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – as required by unit
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification preferred; facility will provide training if not held.
Additional Requirements
- Unexpired government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Background checks including SS Trace, County searches (last 7 years), Nationwide, Sex Offender, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG prior to start.
- Primary source verification of state license prior to start.
- National certification/verification as applicable by profession and state.
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to orientation (approx. 8-12 hours).
- Physical exam within the last 12 months.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable.
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
- Two professional references within the last 3 years.
- Skills checklist verification required.
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable.

- Pediatric population primarily with behavioral health diagnoses.
- Night shift schedule.
- Facility is a 24/7 children’s behavioral health hospital.
