Job Opportunity: Oncology Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Description

• Work on a step-down unit caring for general medical and oncology step-down patients.
• Administer chemotherapy via IV and start IVs.
• Use equipment such as Welch Allyn Vital Sign Towers, Sigma IV Pumps, and EPIC for documentation.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4-6, with support staff available if ratios increase. Chemotherapy admissions may reduce assignment ratios.
• Floating to other medical-surgical areas including Acute Unit and Emergency Room to care for med-surg patients.
• Weekend work every other weekend; scheduling includes some self-scheduling options and possible block scheduling accommodations.
• Must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year
• Minimum 2 years of PCU/Stepdown nursing experience
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) or Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) chemotherapy certification
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
• Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement

Additional Requirements

• No call responsibilities.
• Professional reference from a supervisor or manager required.
• Complete application/resume with full 7 years of work history, no gaps.
• Background check including criminal history, SSN trace, national and state searches, education verification, and drug testing (10-panel including THC) within 30 days of start.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine proof
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (for candidates starting after November 1)
• Fingerprinting and state-specific registry clearances as required by Michigan regulations.
• Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam and specialty competency exam within 1 year prior to assignment start.

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Floating to other med-surg units including Acute Unit and Emergency Room.
• Weekend shifts every other weekend.
• Charge nurse typically not assigned to patient care.
• Block scheduling may be accommodated upon request.

Notes

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
• Must have ONCC or ONS chemotherapy certification in hand before starting (pending ONS accepted initially).
• Must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment without time off requests.
• Floating may require flexibility to work in different med-surg areas.
