Job Description
As a traveler Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide support primarily in triage and clinic settings during a leave of absence period. The transplant coordinator role will be covered internally.
Key Responsibilities:
Triage Support:
Handle patient phone calls and communicate patient needs to the nurse practitioner (NP) or physician (MD) covering triage.Laboratory Review & Follow-Up:
Collaborate with the triage NP to review outpatient lab results and communicate medication changes or care plan updates to patients and caregivers.Clinic Support:
Assist during clinic visits and follow-up care alongside MDs and NPs, including:- Medication reconciliation
- Review of systems
- Coordinating follow-up with providers (labs, medication adjustments)
- Communicating care plan updates to patients/caregivers
Patient & Family Education:
Provide health education as part of ongoing clinical care.Administrative Duties:
Support tasks such as managing faxes, completing school/dental clearance forms, processing prior authorizations, and other program support duties.
Required Qualifications
- License: Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license for New York State with no pending or adverse actions.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse (defaulting to the higher requirement if discrepancies exist).
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Primary Source Verified
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Primary Source Verified
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA Primary Source Verified
- Background Checks: Must pass comprehensive criminal background checks including federal, state, and county searches within the last 7 years, education verification, sex offender registry, and sanction lists.
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start (including vital signs, medical history, clearance to work)
- Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility guidelines
- Required immunizations/vaccinations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly encouraged)
- Flu vaccination required during flu season
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start
- Vision screening within 12 months prior to start
- Competencies: Medication/pharmacology competency exam and other role-specific competency exams as applicable.
- References: Two professional references within 2 years for travel/per diem acute care roles.
Additional Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and training modules prior to or at start of assignment.
- Compliance with facility-specific documentation such as confidentiality agreements, staff attestations, and code of conduct.
- Completion of New York State Central Registry and Statewide Exclusion List forms if applicable.
- Employment application and work history verification covering 20 years with no gaps.
- Annual skills checklist and other ongoing competency validations.
