Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)

Work Schedule & Unit Information

  • Rotating weeknights and weekends, including holidays
  • Shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Preferred unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), but Medical-Surgical (MS) RN also accepted
  • Patient ratio: Approximately 1:3-4
  • Floating required to different units within the hospital system as needed

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of PCU or Med-Surg nursing experience required
  • EPIC electronic health record experience required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required (AHA only)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (AHA only)
  • NIH Stroke Certification required for critical care and ER nurses
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter (with remediation process if failed)

Licensure & Background Checks

  • Valid nursing license required; compact license users from states other than Ohio must complete residency declaration
  • Background checks include a 7-year criminal history, SS trace, sex offender registry, MVR (if applicable), and nationwide checks
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start, with specific Ohio fingerprinting code (3701.881)
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending at start
  • Education accreditation verification required (accredited nursing program)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leader)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and no contagious disease
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire in lieu of annual test)
  • Required immunizations or titers:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Hepatitis B – titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) – adult dose after age 11/12
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); mask required if declining
  • COVID-19 vaccine not required but strongly recommended

Drug Testing

  • Negative 10-panel drug screen required within 3 months of start
  • New travelers cannot start with drug screen pending
  • Panel includes Amphetamines, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, THC, Cocaine, Methadone, Methaqualone, Opiates, PCP, Propoxyphene

Facility Policies & Additional Requirements

  • Annual review and acknowledgement of dress code and hand hygiene policy
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually for new contracts
  • Proof of fingerprint completion required (physical receipt or photo of fingerprint cards)
  • License verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs

This position requires flexibility, strong clinical skills in PCU or Med-Surg, and compliance with comprehensive credentialing, health, and background requirements.
