Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract

Location: Elkins, West Virginia
Facility: Hospital in West Virginia (Travel radius rule: 75 miles, locals not accepted)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (ER)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Mid shifts (11am - 11pm)
  • Schedule: Weekdays, some weekends and holidays
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience
  • Licensure: Compact state license accepted; candidates with pending license will be considered
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Charting System Experience: AllScripts/McKesson
  • Travel Experience: First-time travelers must have prior travel experience
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
  • Weekend Work: Must be willing to work weekends
  • Shift Grouping: Blocked schedule cannot be guaranteed but unit will try to group shifts when possible

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Flu Vaccine:
    • Medical exemptions considered with signed doctor’s note and completed exemption request form
    • Religious exemptions are NOT accepted
  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start
  • Vaccinations & Titers:
    • TDAP within 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (annual updates required)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters allowed pending start)
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer or declination form required (series alone not accepted)
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters allowed pending start)
  • Drug Testing: 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, including alcohol and multiple drug categories
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance: Required and updated annually
  • Flu Season Vaccination/Documentation:
    • Required during flu season (Oct-April) with strict deadlines
    • Declinations not accepted; exemptions require documentation and may require mask-wearing
    • Vaccines can be administered onsite

Compliance & Documentation

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check updated annually
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
    • Fingerprinting (WV CARES) may be required depending on unit; provisional employment possible while pending
    • State-specific WV Nurse Aid Registry check required for certain facility types
  • Licensure Verification:
    • Primary source verification required
    • NURSYS verification for RNs
  • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology and general competency exams required
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance Evaluations: Required if worked with the system over 1 year (annual skills checklist and internal evaluations for longer tenure)
  • Employment Application: Complete application/resume required

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid background required
  • Acknowledgements & Agreements:
    • Patient Rights and Responsibilities
    • Non-Employee Confidentiality and Security Agreement
    • Hepatitis B Declination (if applicable)
  • CareLearning Modules:
    • Mandatory online training modules (~3-4 hours) to be completed before first shift
    • Modules may include general safety topics not specific to unit
    • Failure to complete modules prior to start may delay or cancel assignment
  • Onboarding Checklist: Required for all candidates

Additional Notes

  • Locals within 75 miles are not accepted for this travel assignment.
  • Candidates must be prepared to work some weekends and holidays.
  • Blocked scheduling is attempted but not guaranteed.
  • Flu vaccine documentation must include specific details (administered date, lot number, manufacturer, site, expiration, clinic info).
  • Candidates with pending fingerprinting results may start provisionally for up to 60 days.
  • Travel experience is mandatory for first-time travelers.
