Job Opportunity: MS/Tele Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position: MS/Tele RN (Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Unit)
  • Start Dates: March 9 and March 23 (March 9 starts prioritized)
  • Schedule: No blocked schedule requests allowed
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4
  • Scrubs Color: Royal Blue
  • Orientation: Bi-weekly sessions
  • Flu Vaccine: Required, no exemptions or declinations accepted

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in MS/Telemetry (also accepting RNs with Emergency Department or Clinical Evaluation Unit backgrounds)
  • EPIC charting experience required

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only

Preferred Certifications

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – training provided onsite if not already held

Licensure

  • Must have a current North Carolina RN license or a Compact RN license

Work Environment & Additional Details

  • Local candidates within 75 miles considered at a reduced rate
  • First-time travelers are welcome
  • Local candidates are also accepted

Required Qualifications & Compliance

  • Flu vaccination mandatory (no exemptions)
  • Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, education verification, and others as per facility policy
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or positive titers (no exemptions)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination/titer or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination for 2025-26 (required for new candidates starting Oct-Mar)
    • Polio vaccine or attestation

Documentation & Onboarding Requirements

  • I9 or attestation
  • Driver’s license or government-issued photo ID
  • Social Security card (if used for I9)
  • E-Verify or attestation
  • Employment application and 7 years of work history
  • Two professional references from employment within last 12 months (one must be a supervisor)
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Facility-specific competencies and exams
  • Duke Guest Account setup required prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems

Notes

  • Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous Duke assignments may have some documentation requirements waived or accepted on file
  • Candidates must complete all required online modules prior to orientation
  • Competency checklists must be completed within 3 weeks after start date
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG/medication knowledge given at orientation (not required for RRTs)
