Job Opportunity: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Position: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)
  • Shift Start Dates: March 9 and March 23
  • Schedule: No blocked schedule requests
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating: May float to ED observation unit
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4
  • Scrubs Color: Royal Blue
  • Orientation: Bi-weekly
  • Flu Vaccination: Required, no exemptions or declinations accepted
  • First-Timer: Accepts nurses new to travel assignments
  • Local Candidates: Accepted within 75 miles

Required Qualifications

  • License: North Carolina RN license or Compact RN license in hand
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience (specialty experience requirement)
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Preferred Certification: CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – training provided onsite if not already held

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, and international searches if applicable
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Immunizations and health requirements:
    • Flu vaccine (mandatory)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (vaccines or positive titers required)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Polio vaccine or attestation
  • Employment application and 7 years of work history
  • Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months (one must be a supervisor)
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Facility-specific onboarding including competency exams and online modules prior to orientation
  • Setup of a facility guest account prior to clearance

Additional Notes

  • Candidates may be required to complete unit-specific competency exams and online training modules before orientation.
  • Candidates must complete all required documentation and health screenings prior to start date.
  • Floating to other units within the emergency department may be required.
  • This position supports a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio in the ED.

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not required; first-time travel nurses are welcome.
