Job Details

Unit Information
Observation Unit:
- 10 Bed ER Overflow
- Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4-5; if RN/LPN team, ratio can go up to 1:7
- Focus on constant reassessment of patient readiness for discharge
- Rapid admission and discharge of patients
Med Surg Units:
- Mix of medical patients
- Staff includes RNs, LPNs, Techs, etc.
- Floating to other Med Surg units required approximately once per week
Work Schedule
- Floating depends on need; typically once per week
- Must work every other weekend
- No guarantee of block scheduling
Licensure & Certifications
- Michigan RN License required
- BLS (AHA) required
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required for ER positions
- Other certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, EFM, ENPC, NIH Stroke Certification, CPI) — verify based on unit assignment
Required Documents & Compliance
- I-9 and E-Verify documentation
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search back to age 18
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma)
- Michigan LARA fingerprinting within 45 days of start (for certain positions)
- Central Registry Clearance (time sensitive, wet signature required) for pediatric, RRT, L&D, Echo Tech Cardiac Sonographers, OB Mother-Baby units, and others as applicable
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 45 days of start
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (must include pertussis)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 45 days of start
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B: titer, series, or facility declination
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption (medical/spiritual) required for candidates starting after 11/1; proof due by 12/1
- Fit mask testing required onsite (Honeywell DC365N95HC) for applicable roles; appointment must be scheduled and documented
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to work with a variety of staff (RNs, LPNs, Techs)
- One professional reference from a supervisor/manager required
- Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps
- Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units
- Review and sign facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct, Appearance Standards, and Vaccine Exemption forms if applicable
This position requires a flexible, experienced RN with prior travel experience, able to float between units and work every other weekend in a fast-paced environment focused on patient throughput and care quality.
