Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Must be available the first 8 days of assignment.
• Will float to other Med Surg units approximately once per week.
• Work schedule includes every other weekend.
• Staffing ratio typically 1:4-5 during day shifts; may flex to 1:7 with LPN support.
• Must be willing to work with a variety of staff (RNs, LPNs, Techs, etc.).
• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed or approved at this time.
• Holiday time off requests are limited (only one holiday request allowed, either one day or one evening/day after, but not both).

Unit/Patient Population

• Med/Surg units with a mix of medical patients.
• Possible units include ortho/neurovascular, cardio/pulmonary, and surgical patients (GI, urology, hysterectomies, mastectomies).

Licensure & Certifications

• Michigan RN License required.
• BLS (AHA) required.
• ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, ENPC, NIH Stroke Certification, CPI, and other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment.
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year Med/Surg experience required; preference for 2 years.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search back to age 18.
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
• MI LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions (not typically for this RN role unless specified).
• Education verification required (copy of highest degree or diploma).
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 45 days of start.
• Immunizations required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (must include pertussis)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 45 days of start
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
• Flu vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption required for candidates starting after November 1; proof due by December 1.

Additional Requirements

• Complete a 7-year work history with no gaps, dated MM/YYYY.
• One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required.
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam completed within 1 year prior to assignment with a passing score of at least 80%.
• Competency exam in specialty completed within 1 year prior to assignment with a passing score of at least 80%.
• Must review and sign facility Code of Conduct and Appearance Standards Policy prior to start.
• Fit testing may be required depending on unit and role; must be completed onsite if required.

Notes

• Floating assignments depend on unit needs and typically occur about once per week.
• Staffing ratios may flex, but RNs will have LPN support when ratios increase.
• Holiday time off is strictly limited to one holiday day or one evening/day after, not both.
