Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Rehab) - Travel/Contract
Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Position: Registered Nurse (Rehab)
- Facility Type: Acute Inpatient Rehab Hospital
- Average Daily Census: 52
- Rooms/Beds: 60
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6 (all shifts)
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Floating: May float within service line and all MSI units; regular floating between departments, units, and facilities as needed
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per scheduled period
- Holiday Requirement: Yes, if holiday falls on scheduled days
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals: Not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
- Pending State License: Not accepted
- Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of specialty experience in Rehab nursing
- First-timers: Accepted
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit
- Other certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, CPI/MAB)
- Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Kansas
- Skills:
- Acute inpatient rehab experience preferred
- Experience with hypertension, post cardiac surgery care, blood glucose monitoring, insulin protocols
- Feeding devices and tube care (NG tube insertion, PEG tube management)
- Swallowing precautions, thickened liquids
- Chronic renal failure/dialysis care
- Foley catheter insertion/removal
- Blood administration
- IV starts and venous blood draws
- Medication administration including anti-coagulants, anti-seizure, diuretics
- Neurological assessments (CVA, neuromuscular disease, Parkinson’s, post craniotomy, seizure disorders, stroke scale)
- Care for spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury
- Assistive devices, mobilization techniques, prosthesis application
- Pulse and CMS checks, suture/staple removal
- Care of mechanically ventilated patients
- COVID protocols
- Incentive spirometry, pulse oximetry, suctioning (oral and nasotracheal), supplemental oxygen delivery
- Tracheostomy care and suctioning
- Diabetic teaching, fall risk assessment
- Infection prevention and isolation precautions
- Use of lift/transfer devices
- National Patient Safety Goals/Core Measures
- Pain assessment and management
- Patient teaching
- Pressure ulcer assessment and prevention
- Restraints and specialty beds
- Wound care
- Electronic Health Record: Epic experience required
Compliance and Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required
- State-specific background checks as applicable
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap (or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
- Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Other facility-specific documents and acknowledgements (HIPAA, latex allergy, confidentiality, hand hygiene, dress code, etc.) must be completed prior to start
Additional Information
- Floating within scope of practice is expected
- Must complete unit-specific competency exams annually
- Skills checklist required within 1 year of start
- References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application required
- Orientation modules required through WorkRamp (approx. 16 hours) unless completed in current calendar year
