Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Shift: 12-hour Nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)

Job Description

• Work on a 32-bed Medical-Surgical unit with patient population including chest pain, abdominal pain, flank pain, CVA/TIA, generalized weakness, and geriatric-psychiatric placement.
• Float within skillset primarily between two nearby campuses (8 to 11 miles apart) with 2-hour notice for cross-campus float; mid-shift float possible but rare across campuses.
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday.
• No on-call or call-back required.
• Charting: Recent EPIC experience required; checkoff class will be provided.
• Unit has excellent LPN and CNA support; typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 days and 1:5-7 nights.
• May be required to precept students and new hires as this is a teaching hospital.
• Scrub color: Navy blue; no competing health system or agency logos allowed.
• Attendance policy: More than 3 call-ins may result in termination.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• One completed travel nursing assignment
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
• Trauma level II experience
• Proficient in peripheral intravenous (PIV) insertion

Additional Information

• Guaranteed 36 hours per week; 48 hours accepted upon request. Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts.
• No local candidates within a 40-mile radius will be considered.
• COVID-19 vaccine is not currently required but subject to change.
• Orientation occurs bi-weekly; GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week.
