Job Description
- Assist the pharmacist in medication preparation, repackaging, compounding, filling, and delivery.
- Handle dispensing tasks appropriate for patients from newborn to adult.
- Assist with procurement, record keeping, storage, and distribution of controlled substances.
- Ensure medication doses are appropriate by accurately entering patient diagnosis, weight, allergies, and body surface area.
- Follow aseptic technique and infection control protocols in sterile product preparation.
- Complete annual recertification and maintain at least 90% on aseptic technique/infection control exams.
- Verify medication accuracy as confirmed by the pharmacist, ensuring no dispensing errors.
- Demonstrate competence in batch, medication, and prescription order entry.
- Collaborate with Pharmacy Support Services to maintain medication and supply stock.
- Follow procedures for stock replacement and nonformulary medication handling.
- Obtain pharmacist initial and final checks; assign dilution and expiration labels per department standards.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Requirements
- Knowledge of hospital and departmental pharmaceutical handling standards.
- Strong math, reading, and communication skills.
- Ability to operate equipment used in sterile product preparation.
Certifications
- Required:
- Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPHT-TX) or Pharmacy Intern (PHAR INT) with Texas State Board of Pharmacy
- IV Certification
- Preferred:
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPHT) through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board
Shift Details
- Shift hours: 6:30 AM - 11:30 PM (Variable 8-hour shifts)
- Variable weekend rotation
- Night shift coverage as needed
- No on-call required
