40 hours per week, 8 hours per day
Required Qualifications
- Cardiac Sonographer experience within the last year
- One year of Cardiac Sonographer experience
- One of the following credentials:
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
- Pediatric Echocardiography (PE)
- Registered Congenital Cardiovascular Sonographer (RCCS)
- Successful completion of an accredited cardiac ultrasound program
Required Experience and Skills
- Knowledge of ultrasound diagnostic procedures and equipment/instrumentation
- Ability to interpret physician instructions and patient medical and clinical records to determine the type of ultrasound procedure to perform
- Ability to perform echocardiography on a varied patient population
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and congenital/acquired cardiac pathology as they relate to ultrasound diagnostic procedures
- Ability to apply judgment and make informed decisions
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse groups and gain cooperation
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to work effectively as a team player
- Knowledge of computer systems and software used in the functional area
- Knowledge of principles of the PACS network and/or other electronic image processing and image development systems
- Knowledge of principles of ultrasound physics
- Knowledge of safety principles and procedures related to ultrasound procedures and equipment
Job Responsibilities
- Perform and acquire structurally normal cardiac ultrasound studies
- Assist with complex congenital cardiac studies
- Perform diagnostic cardiac ultrasound studies for patients of all ages across hospital environments
- Review exam indications and pertinent medical information before the echocardiogram
- Use ultrasound equipment to obtain diagnostic images according to imaging protocols
- Present and review echocardiographic studies with a physician and obtain additional images as requested
- Perform quantitative assessment of echocardiographic data
- Assist in gathering ultrasound and other medical data needed for diagnosis
- Document observations and quantifications in the cardiology PACS for final review and interpretation
- Ensure studies are archived on the cardiology PACS network
- Maintain equipment functionality and report technical issues
- Participate in outreach clinics, weekend and holiday coverage, and on-call services as assigned
- Attend regular quality improvement meetings
