Job Opportunity: Patient Care Technician (PCT) - PACU

Location: Bronx, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to work in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) covering both Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery areas. The role involves caring for post-surgical patients, monitoring vitals and consciousness levels, managing pain, administering medication, patient education, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure patient stability.

Unit Details

• Unit Type: PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)
• Beds: 11 total (Preop 8 bays)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:2, or 1:3 if needed
• Shift Length: 5 to 8.5 hours with 1-hour lunch
• Orientation: 1-2 days with a preceptor
• EMR System: All Scripts
• No weekend, weeknight, holiday, or call requirements
• No floating requirements

Required Qualifications

• Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) via NHA
• BLS Certification
• Experience in PACU or post-surgical care required (must have prior PACU or post-surgical experience)

Additional Information

• Duties include prepping patients, taking vitals, gathering belongings, escorting patients, cleaning rooms, continuous observation until patient stability, and monitoring for adverse reactions or complications.
• Typically works alongside nurse aides and other PCTs (usually 2 per shift).
