Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Operating Room (OR)

Location: Ranson, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

A smaller critical access community hospital with 3 OR suites is seeking an experienced OR Travel RN. The facility performs a variety of surgical cases including total joint replacements, sports medicine procedures, general surgery, OB/GYN, urology, plastics, and ENT (visiting every other month). The OR operates Monday through Friday with call coverage on nights and weekends.

Work Schedule

• Four 10-hour shifts per week (6:45 AM – 5:15 PM)
• Call shifts approximately 3-4 per month, including nights and weekends
• Weekend rotation about 1 weekend every 6-7 weeks
• Call response time: 30 minutes, must be dressed and ready to work
• Holidays covered by call

Typical Caseload & Environment

• 3 OR suites plus 1 procedure room, all patients go through the same PreOp
• Case volume varies:

  • Tuesday/Thursday: 20-22 cases/day
  • Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 6-14 cases/day
• Common cases include:

  • Total joint replacements (hips, knees, shoulders)
  • Arthroscopies, sports medicine, non-complicated fractures
  • General surgery (bowel resections, gallbladder, appendectomies, breast biopsies, mastectomies)
  • OB/GYN (C-sections, hysterectomies)
  • Urology (kidney stones)
  • Plastics (breast reductions/implants, hand surgery, lacerations, dog bites)
  • ENT procedures (tonsils, sinuses, tubes) every other month
• Innovative environment with good equipment and resources, including ROSA robot for joint replacements
• No scrubbing required for RNs

Staffing & Support

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1
• Usually 2 OR Techs and 1 RN per room
• Charge nurse available 24/7
• OR Techs require BLS; CST certification highly preferred
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
• Pharmacy not in-house 24/7 but uses Pyxis system
• No IV team available
• EMR system: EPIC
• Scrubs provided

Orientation & Training

• 3 shifts with a preceptor in the OR after general hospital orientation

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Registered Nurse license (appropriate for West Virginia)
• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• PALS (AHA)

Experience Requirements

• Strong OR experience required
• Prior travel experience preferred but not mandatory; first-time travelers with strong OR experience will be considered
• Higher years of specialty experience should be assumed if conflicting information is present (not explicitly stated here)
