Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Med Surg/Oncology
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 48 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Unit: 6 East – Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Oncology, and Med/Surg
Number of Beds: 27-28
Patient Population: Adult patients with oncology and trauma diagnoses
Job Details
- Mixed unit with patient ratios:
- PCU: 1 RN to 4 patients
- Med/Surg: 1 RN to 5 patients (days), 1 RN to 5-6 patients (nights)
- Float to same level of care units (PCU and Med/Surg)
- Self-scheduling available
- Nursing assistant support and charge nurse present
- Additional unit support includes PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, and dietician
- Scrubs color: Navy Blue
Patient Care & Equipment
- Common diagnoses: Oncology and trauma patients
- Common drips/medications: Chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, protonix
- RN responsibilities include occasional titration of insulin and cardizem drips
- Specialty equipment: Ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan-Ganz, EV-1000), ICP monitoring (training provided)
- IV pumps: Alaris
- Lifting equipment: Lyko lifts and other lift devices available
- EMR system: EPIC
- Patient experience focus: Hourly rounding
Orientation & Training
- Orientation duration: 2 days
- RN skills exam during orientation (open book, must pass with 90% or higher)
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Active RN license
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Oncology certification (ONS/ONCC) preferred but not required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in PCU and/or oncology
- Prior travel experience not required; first-time travelers are welcome
Additional Requirements & Policies
- Must have a valid driver’s license at time of application
- Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any affiliated facilities within that radius
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no extensions allowed
