Registered Nurse (RN) – Acute Care
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7 PM – 7 AM)
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Details
- Acute Care unit with 29 beds (typical census 22-26, target 25)
- Mixture of private and semi-private rooms
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 5-6:1 (nights)
- Patient population includes a wide range of medical diagnoses such as GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, elderly patients who fall, DVT, pulmonary embolisms
- Patients may leave for surgery or procedures and return to the unit
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Illinois RN license (active or application initiated)
- BLS certification
Clinical Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips (Heparin only)
- Patients may require oxygen up to 6L NC, stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or PRN
- No ventilators on unit
- RNs read telemetry strips remotely monitored by a house-wide telemetry department (Phillips monitors)
- RNs expected to attempt IV starts; inpatient phlebotomy team available for blood draws
- No care for ICU or chemotherapy patients
Staffing & Support
- 24-hour Charge RN coverage; charge RN goal is to be free of patient assignment
- 24-hour Crisis RN coverage and administrative supervisor available 24/7
- 24-hour Patient Care Technician (PCT) coverage with a ratio of 1:10
- Unit clerk (PCL) with 24-hour coverage
Scheduling & Work Environment
- 12-hour shifts with shift report at shift change (7 AM and 7 PM)
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Fri/Sat for night shift)
- Holiday shifts are rotated
- No call or standby requirement
- Travel RNs are first to float as needed to other med/surg-like units (no ICU or chemo float)
- Scrub color: any color, staff provide their own scrubs (no pediatric scrubs)
- Unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts
Additional Notes
- Drug-free campus; negative drug screen required for all panels
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
- Orientation includes 12 non-billable hours
- Call-off policy allows 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty
