Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Schedule

• 12-hour night shifts
• Shift times: 1845-0715 or 645-1915
• Every other weekend
• No call or standby
• Self-scheduling is used, but schedules are not finalized until management balances them
• Travelers may be asked to work 2 of the 3 major holidays

Unit Details

• Russell ICU (RICU)
• 11 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1-2
• ICU setting with common diagnoses including ARDS, Sepsis, Chronic vent, ETOH withdrawal, DKA, CRRT, therapeutic hypothermia, and IABP
• Line placements and intubations are common
• Charge nurse or nurse shift manager generally does not take patients
• Safety attendants are available
• Hospitalist and intensivist coverage is in house 24/7
• Respiratory therapy is in house 24/7
• Tele/monitor techs are on the unit during the day, and nurses must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Phillips monitors are used
• Pharmacy is in house 24/7, with ICU pharmacy open during the day

Floating

• May float to CSICU and other critical care-like units within scope
• May float to all 5 Sacramento facilities
• Mid-shift float to another facility is rare but possible

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• NIHSS
• Ability to titrate drips
• Must complete the DYS exam through UNA before signing the contract, with 2 attempts to score 80%
• Copy of driver’s license required at submittal to validate legal name

Preferred Qualifications

• CRRT experience
• Cardiac skill
• 2 supervisor references from the modality being submitted to, with one within 12 months and one within 3 years worked

Orientation

• 2 shifts in Medical ICU
• 1 shift in Trauma, Neuro, and Surgical ICUs

Dress Code

• Navy scrubs
• Undershirts must be navy, white, or black
• Navy scrub jackets are optional
