Required Qualifications

• Medical Lab Scientist (2 years of experience)
• Medical Lab Scientist experience within the last year
• ASCP
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Responsibilities

• Collects and prepares blood samples for laboratory testing
• Enters specimen collections in the lab information system
• Assists medical technologists and/or pathologists with designated laboratory tests
• Maintains laboratory equipment and records according to accreditation guidelines and quality control standards
• Uses skin puncture and venipuncture techniques to obtain blood samples
• Verifies patient information, labels specimen vials, and matches requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Disposes of contaminated needles and biohazard fluids or tissue according to applicable laws, standards, and policies
• Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into appropriate systems
• Processes specimens according to established guidelines
• Organizes blood-drawing trays and maintains sterile, first-time-use instruments and supplies
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment and follows infection-control and hazardous waste protocols
• Performs other related duties as required and directed
