Registered Nurse – Medical Oncology (Night Shift) – Ohio, Columbus
Position Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 16 weeks
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00–7:30)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
- Specialty Focus: Medical Oncology – solid tumor cancers including breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancers; care spans from diagnosis through treatment and end-of-life.
- Staffing Ratios: Typically 1:4, can be up to 1:5
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling requests with no set/blocked schedules; weekends variable based on unit needs.
- Floating: Required to float to other MedSurg Oncology units.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum Experience: 2 years as a Registered Nurse
- Oncology Experience: Preferred but not required
- Skills:
- Telemetry interpretation and monitoring
- Ability to manage patients with medical-surgical issues alongside oncology care
- Certifications Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Certifications Preferred:
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy certification
Orientation
- Week 1: Monday to Friday, day shift orientation
- Week 2: 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
Electronic Medical Record
- EPIC computerized charting system
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum of 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
