Registered Nurse - Med/Surg Telemetry Float

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Shift Details

  • Evening/Night shifts (12-hour) from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holidays as applicable

Job Description

  • Float across multiple medical and surgical general care units, including intermediate care (IMC) units
  • Care for complex and dynamic patient populations
  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care
  • Utilize critical thinking to assess patients, recognize complications, and intervene appropriately
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, nursing assistants, therapists, advanced practice providers, and medical teams
  • Opportunities to mentor, precept new nurses and students
  • Participate in strategic planning, quality improvement, and Shared Governance initiatives

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Experience in Intermediate Care (IMC) units
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Requirements

  • Permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site
  • Flexibility to float to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs
  • Must complete facility-specific background checks and verifications as required
  • Required to complete annual competency exams and telemetry testing as per facility standards

Compliance & Documentation Highlights

  • Background checks including criminal, employment, and education verifications
  • State-specific caregiver screening and BID form for Wisconsin
  • Immunization and health document requirements including:
    • TB testing and questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or exemption
    • Varicella vaccination or exemption
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination form
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
  • Drug screening per facility and agency standards
  • Facility-specific telemetry exams with remediation process if needed

  • This role offers exposure to a top-ranked academic health system with diverse patient populations

This position is ideal for experienced acute care RNs with telemetry skills who enjoy working in a dynamic, multi-department float role and are comfortable with night shifts and weekend rotations.
