Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist - NICU

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Shifts: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts, day or night
  • Every other weekend work required
  • Primary assignment in Labor & Delivery (L&D) with NICU focus
  • Floating to PICU and some Pediatric Acute Care units as needed
  • Must have recent Children's Hospital experience within the last 3 years; experience at a Level 1 adult facility may be considered
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required
  • Unit assignment may be NICU, PICU, or Pediatrics based on facility needs

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Indiana State Respiratory Therapist License (must be in hand to submit)
  • ACLS (AHA accepted, RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA accepted, RQI acceptable)
  • NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required if placed in L&D; can be obtained after offer
  • PALS preferred
  • Education must be accredited by CoARC and regionally accredited by CHEA

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Certified Respiratory Therapist with a minimum of 2 years of NICU experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working in Labor & Delivery (L&D)
  • Recent experience in a Children's Hospital setting within the last 3 years
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current NRP certification
  • Respiratory Therapist experience

Additional Requirements

  • Must provide written confirmation of comfort with every other weekend scheduling before submission
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Must complete mandatory facility-specific RRT modules prior to orientation (21 modules covering safety, compliance, infection prevention, HIPAA, and more)
  • Must pass medication/pharmacology competency exam and unit competency exam
  • Must pass color blindness testing (Ishihara or equivalent, 100% score required)

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start date
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • Tuberculosis screening (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella (no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap strongly recommended
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • HIPAA acknowledgment and orientation safety manual acknowledgment required

Background & Documentation

  • Background check within 90 days of start, including 7-year history and various national/statewide checks
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and official transcripts/diplomas required
  • Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment (within 2 years) with appropriate supervisory titles
  • Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps of 30+ days
  • Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter

Notes

  • Indiana licensed RRTs will not be allowed to work at the facility after 11/30/2024, except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RNs
  • On-site fit testing available only as a last resort with limitations
  • PAPR use requires prior facility approval
