Job Description

• Work variable shifts with schedules made 2-4 weeks in advance, rotating based on pharmacist availability.
• Shift times include:

  • 0600-1630
  • 1000-2030
  • 1200-2230
  • 1400-0030
  • 1430-0100
  • 2000-0630
• Weekend coverage: Every other weekend
• Patient age groups served: Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics
• Medication system used: Omnicell

Required Experience and Certifications

• Valid Pharmacist license in California
• Registered Pharmacist (RPh)
• Minimum 3 years of pharmacist experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience in an inpatient and acute care setting
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Chemotherapy/Hazardous Drug certification
• IV Certification
• California State Pharmacist License

Required Skills & Competencies

• Inpatient / Acute care pharmacy
• Anticoagulation therapy
• Cardiac, clinical, geriatric, pediatric, pharmacokinetic, psychotherapeutic, renal, and warfarin dosing
• Therapeutic medication monitoring
• High-alert medications
• Antibiotics management
• Chemotherapy and antineoplastic agent handling
• IV piggyback and IV push medications
• Compounding and sterile technique
• Pain controlled analgesia
• Medication packaging and prepacking

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• N95 fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually
• Immunizations/vaccinations or titers for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer required; declination acceptable if low/equivocal)
  • Varicella
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
• Annual TB questionnaire
• Seasonal flu vaccine required November 1 - April 30 (declination accepted)
• COVID vaccination record preferred
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year (excluding marijuana panel due to state restrictions)

Additional Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID
• Emergency contact form
• Background checks including 7-year search and federal exclusions
• ACLS certification (AHA provider/instructor accepted; refer to qualification details)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as applicable
• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam
• Color blindness testing annually
• Competency exams per specialty within 2 years
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam if applicable
• Photo for badge
• Review of drug and alcohol-free policy, hand hygiene, dress and appearance policies
• Completion of facility-specific education modules including EPIC, YouLearn, and HIPAA compliance prior to or shortly after start
• Two professional references

• Annual internal evaluation if employed for 1 year or more
