Travel/Contract Registered Nurse - Operating Room
Location: Jefferson, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday
- Call Requirement: Every third day and every third weekend
- Call hours: 3:00 PM - 7:00 AM weekdays; weekend call from Friday 3:00 PM to Monday 7:00 AM
- Call back time: 30 minutes, may vary depending on case length (2-4+ hours)
- Ratios: 1:1
- Float Requirement: None
- Weekend Requirement: None
- Scheduling Type: Set schedule
- Unit Orientation: 24 hours

Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience working with Maternal-Fetal patients
- Experience in Colonoscopy, EGD, laparoscopic-assisted procedures, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), abdominal/vaginal hysterectomy, and bilateral tubal ligation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Ambulatory OR setting
- Skills in bronchoscopy, PEG tube placement/exchange, scrub endoscopic surgery, mastectomy, scrub general surgery, thyroidectomy, scrub ophthalmology surgery, scrub arthroscopic surgeries, scrub orthopedic surgeries, circumcision, transurethral resection of the prostate, scrub urology surgery, amputations, emergency management (fire safety, latex allergy, malignant hyperthermia), Steris, laser safety, wound management
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 90 days for all locations lived in last 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 90 days
- Education verification for highest degree specific to nursing profession (pending verification allowed if license valid)
- North Carolina Healthcare Personnel Registry and Division of Medical Assistance searches within 90 days prior to start
- Drug testing within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (30 days if past positive TB)
- Fit mask testing required (N95 within 1 year or PAPR training; PAPR not accepted at this facility)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no timeframe)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per travel placement guidelines
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines with boosters if needed; no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B titer or series or facility-specific declination if negative/equivocal
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 10/31)
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years (not required by Novant but required by Aya)
- Employment application and skills checklist as applicable
Additional Notes
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain RN specialties (check with recruiter if applicable)
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
- Color blind testing within 1 year required
- Various facility-specific documents and orientation modules required prior to start
- Badge photo and confidentiality agreement required
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training not required for this facility
- Radiation badge required only for specific tech roles, not for this RN role
This position offers a structured OR nursing role with a set schedule and call requirements, requiring a minimum of 2 years OR experience and standard ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications. Prior travel experience is not required.
