Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical - Neuro Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

- Contract length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Day shift: 4 shifts per 4-week period, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Option for 36 or 48-hour shifts available
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Saturday and Sunday; nights: Friday and Saturday night)
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
Unit and Patient Population
- Mixed Acuity: Medical Surgical, Telemetry, and Stepdown
- 48-bed unit specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery
- Patient conditions include strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, brain and spinal cord tumors, and other neurological disorders
- Unit includes long-term EEG monitoring beds
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, and paramedics; LPNs assigned on some floors
Patient Ratios
- Medical Surgical/Telemetry: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights (rare)
- Stepdown: 1:3-4 (days and nights)
Floating
- Frequent floating required to meet staffing needs
- May float within scope to multiple units, including other campuses
- Travelers are first to float
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Experience with Epic electronic charting system
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current NRP certification
- NIH Stroke Certification
Licensure
- Active RN license for Nebraska required
- Pending license accepted if in hand at time of submission; otherwise, booking delayed by six weeks
Facility Policies
- 100% nicotine-free facility
- Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
- Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
- Parking: Permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background check within 30 days of start, updated annually (includes multi-county and federal checks)
- SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
- Education verification required
- State-specific abuse/neglect registry check required
- Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required
- Certifications as applicable per unit:
- ACLS (AHA)
- BLS (AHA)
- PALS (AHA)
- NRP (AHA)
- NIH Stroke Certification (as applicable)
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology testing as applicable
- Annual skills checklist required
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask models required)
- Tdap vaccine within last 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- TB questionnaire if history of positive TB, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low/equivocal titers
- Hepatitis B titer required; declination accepted if non-reactive
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low/equivocal titers
- Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually (specific panel required)
- Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; documentation or declination required
- COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemptions or declinations accepted
Additional Notes
- Eye exam required only for OR staff (not applicable here)
- Two professional references from work within past 2 years required
- Up to two weeks of time off (RTO) permitted; requests must be submitted with application and approved by manager
- Travelers must submit holiday work requests with application
