Contract Details

  • Length: 13 weeks
  • Shifts: 36 or 48 hour shifts
  • Guaranteed Hours: Contracted hours per week (36/40/48), with facility allowed to call off 3 times during the 13-week assignment
  • Weekend Requirement: Scheduled as needed; weekend days = Saturday & Sunday, weekend nights = Friday, Saturday & Sunday
  • On-call: No
  • Floating:
    • Optional to Pediatric ED
    • Expected to float to Adult PCUs based on staffing needs
    • Potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma as needed
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted within 75 miles
  • Pending License: Accepted (NM license can pend at time of submission)
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: More than 7 days off requires approval

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years required; will consider 1.5 years with Level 1 Trauma experience preferred
  • Level 1 Trauma Experience: Preferred
  • Prior Travel Experience: Strongly preferred but not required if candidate has 2+ years Level 1 Trauma experience
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted

Certifications Required Before Start

  • ACLS (AHA or ARC; RQI not accepted)
  • BLS (AHA or ARC; RQI not accepted)
  • PALS (AHA or ARC; RQI not accepted)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Must have before submission
  • NIH Stroke Certification (can pend until compliance doc due date before start)
  • COVID Vaccination Required (religious and medical exemptions accepted with completed exemption form)

Clinical & Job Details

  • Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Unit: Emergency Department (60%-80% admitted patients; many ED rooms are "ED Holding")
  • Medication Administration: Includes IV medication via seven medication rights; documentation and communication of clinical findings required
  • Level 1 Trauma: Experience preferred
  • No RQI Certifications Accepted
  • Increased Admit Holds: Currently experiencing increased number of admit holds

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start
  • Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (NM Department of Health clearance)
  • Education verification required (diploma or transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable)
  • Drug screen negative within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
  • Fit mask test required within 1 year of start (specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodation if needed)
  • Negative TB or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Rubeola (Measles) - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
    • Mumps - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
    • Rubella - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
    • Hepatitis B - Declination, series, or titer
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer (history of disease not accepted)
    • Flu vaccine required year-round (exceptions with proper documentation)

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (Aya requirement)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required; must score 80% overall and 100% on Lethal Arrhythmia section)
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) through Relias required for multiple units including Adult and Pediatric ED
  • Arrhythmia Exam Review and Attestation required for applicable units
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification may be required depending on unit
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
  • Certification (Miscellaneous): MOAB cert required for Behavioral Health units and MDC; can be obtained onsite if not held prior to start

Additional Notes

  • No locals within 75 miles allowed
  • Candidate must have a valid non-local driver’s license (ID cards not accepted)
  • Location is not near public transportation; candidates must provide transportation plan if approval needed
  • Candidates must complete various facility-specific documents including compliance forms, confidentiality statements, emergency contact forms, and Cerner training attestation (optional test-out available for experienced Cerner users)
  • OT after 48 hours on all contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025

This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurses with Level 1 Trauma experience, who are comfortable with a fast-paced, high-acuity environment and flexible scheduling including weekends and floating within the facility.
