Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (PACU)

Location: Redlands, California
Contract Length: 8 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a PACU Registered Nurse to work in a unit that commonly handles Spine, Joint Replacement, Hip Replacement, General Surgery, Robotic Surgery, Stroke intervention, GI, and Gastrectomy cases. The role includes floating to pre-op as needed. No weekends required except when on call. On call schedule includes one 24-hour weekend per month and one overnight on call per week. Scrubs are provided.

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years ICU experience required (1st timer PACU nurses are acceptable with this experience).
• Experience with ambulatory/outpatient and inpatient care.
• Skills in pain management, pediatric PACU, Phase I and II recovery, pre/post-op care, and various surgical specialties including bariatrics, neuro/spine, ortho, robotics, vascular, and general surgery.
• Competency in arterial line management, dysrhythmia recognition/management, pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring, blood product administration, central line care, and various anesthesia types (conscious sedation, epidural, general, local, MAC, nerve blocks, spinal).
• Ability to perform airway assessment and placement of oral/nasal airways.
• Familiarity with stroke scale, circulation checks, and malignant hyperthermia protocols.
• Experience with medication protocols including antiarrhythmics, anticoagulants, antihypertensives, narcotics/analgesics, and insulin protocols.
• Management of pediatric patients and post cath lab procedures.

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Preferred Certifications:

• CCRN
• CPAN
• CAPA

Required Licensure

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for California.

Schedule

• No weekends except when on call.
• On call: 1 weekend (24 hours) per month and 1 overnight on call per week.

Documentation & Compliance Requirements

• Background checks including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender, and international searches if applicable.
• Drug screening (10-panel including THC) within 30 days of start.
• Immunizations and health screenings including:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (updated every 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella titers or vaccinations
  • Flu vaccination or declination annually
  • COVID vaccination plus booster or approved exemption
• Fit mask testing prior to start.
• Physical exam within the last 12 months, updated annually.
• Professional references and employment verification as required.
• Signed acknowledgments for facility policies including abuse reporting, confidentiality, code of conduct, drug-free workplace, and others.

Systems & Equipment

• Experience with Omnicell medication system and Meditech Expanse documentation preferred.

Additional Notes

• Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
• Scrubs are provided by the facility.

This position is ideal for a PACU RN with strong ICU background looking for a travel contract in California with a diverse surgical caseload and a manageable on-call schedule.
