Job Description

• Work in a Medical Rehabilitation Unit within a Trauma hospital.
• Patient population primarily stroke patients (~40%).
• Caseload: Maximum 5 patients per day, typically 3-4 patients daily, 90 minutes each.
• Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (5x8 hour shifts).
• No weekend or on-call requirements.
• Potential to float to sister facilities.
• Blocked schedule (M-F).
• Charting system: Cerner.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Physical Therapist.
• First-time travelers accepted if they have acute care experience.
• Current West Virginia Physical Therapist license required prior to start (pending state license accepted but must be cleared before starting).
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (AHA only, no pending or onsite completion allowed).
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless medically exempt with documentation.
• COVID-19 vaccination not required.

Prior Travel Experience

• Not explicitly required. First-time travelers accepted with acute care experience.

Orientation & Training Requirements

• Orientation is two days (Thursday and Friday) including Cerner Infusion Management training.
• Completion of required in-service training modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours).
• Annual fit mask testing required (N95 3M 1860 Small/Regular or Aura 9205). PAPR accommodations available if needed.
• Annual physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by a licensed provider, confirming good health and no physical limitations.
• Negative TB test within 3 months of start (2-step skin test or preferred QGold/TSpot).
• Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella. Booster doses or medical exemptions accepted with documentation.
• Drug screen within 30 days of start, including a full panel (Amphetamines, Barbiturates, Cocaine, Opiates, Phencyclidine, Benzodiazepines, Methadone, Propoxyphene). No placeholders or pending results accepted.
• Annual flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.
• Annual TB questionnaire required for positive TB responders.

Documentation & Compliance

• Must submit: Candidate profile/work history, specialty-specific skills checklist, minimum 2 manager/charge nurse references (within past 2 years), license/certification verification (within 2 days of submission), driver’s license, and social security card.
• Background check: 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, county, sex offender, national, and international searches if applicable.
• SAM and OIG checks must be completed independently within 30 days of start and updated annually.
• Color blind testing required prior to start.
• Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests required for clinical staff.

Additional Notes

• Scrub color: Anything except blue, forest green, or maroon (reserved for nursing). Unit T-shirts provided.
• No return to this facility as a traveler within 2 years of last permanent employment.
• No call or weekend shifts required.
• No special requirements or restrictions on return to work.

This position offers a structured schedule in a specialized acute care rehab setting with a focus on stroke patients, suitable for PTs with at least 1 year of experience and acute care background.
