Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Hartford, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- On-call requirement with possible rotation to off-hours shifts Monday through Friday based on unit needs
- Pediatric experience required
- Level 1 Trauma experience preferred
- Experience with spinal fusion neurosurgery and craniofacial cases required
- Patient ratio: 1:1
- Return to Office (RTO) considered on a case-by-case basis
- Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC
- Scrubs provided
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of specialty experience required
- No first-time travelers accepted
- Prior travel experience is required (no travel pairs allowed)
- Local candidates allowed within 75 miles
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (RQI and HeartCode Complete acceptable)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only (RQI and HeartCode Complete acceptable)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (RQI and HeartCode Complete acceptable)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - AHA only (RQI and HeartCode Complete acceptable)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - required for all ER candidates
- State License: Permanent Connecticut RN license required; temporary license may be allowed pending permanent license approval
Required Competencies
- Competency Exam with 80% or higher within a year of start
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Tele, Stepdown, ICU, and ER) with 80% pass rate
- Core Competencies Part I, II, and III (must be updated annually)
- OSHA Mandatory training (updated annually)
- HIPAA Competency (expires annually)
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, signed by NP, PA, or MD, documenting ability to work full day without restrictions
- Respiratory Fit Mask test annually (specific acceptable masks listed)
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years of start (TD and declinations not accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Immunization or proof of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or signed declination)
- Varicella
- Drug testing: 10 panel within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
Documentation and Verification
- Clear copy of driver’s license or passport required
- Background checks including 7-year search, aliases, nationwide, statewide, sex offender, and OFAC sanctions list within 30 days of start
- Education verification required (diploma may be used as placeholder)
- Employment application including 7 years of employment history and explanation of gaps
- Two references within the past 2 years who directly supervised the candidate
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Work history verification for the last 7 years
Additional Notes
- Willingness to take license pending with ETA provided at submission
- No travel pairs allowed
- Locals allowed within 75 miles radius
- Scrubs provided by the facility
- Return to office considered on a case-by-case basis
This position is ideal for experienced pediatric RNs with trauma and specialized surgical experience who have prior travel contract experience and meet the certification and health requirements.
