Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - ICU
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Float Requirement: Mandatory float between ICU units (Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, Neuro ICU) and possibly Medical-Surgical units as needed
  • Orientation: First week on day shift (orientation + precepting)
  • Local Candidates: Accepted and preferred; must live within 75 miles of the facility

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience in ICU (highest required years of experience)
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (required for ICU RNs)

Additional Requirements

  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

  • Background Checks: Must have a background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including aliases
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
    • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, required annually
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
    • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually (PPD not accepted after 12/15/2025)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
    • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required within 12 months of start)
  • Color Blind Testing (required within 12 months of start)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (preferred for ER RNs)

Notes

  • This is a mandatory float facility; flexibility to work across multiple ICU units and possibly med-surg units is required.
  • No time off (RTO) allowed on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after holidays. Maximum 5 days off with no more than 2 consecutive days.
  • Locals preferred but travel nurses are welcome.

Unit is traveler friendly. Rad onc unit is in the basement of course so no interaction with other departments.

Cons

Cost of living. Parking is wild. Just rent close and walk/bus to work.
