Registered Nurse (CICU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital
Position Details
- Specialty: CICU Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:2
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (12 shifts during contract)
- On-call: Possible low census on-call, but no additional call shifts required
- Floating: May need to float within scope to like units or sister facilities
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience & Licensing Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years required
- License: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA only)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER and CICU)
- Preferred Equipment Experience: CRRT - Prismax
- First-time travelers: Accepted
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Shift Schedule: Night shifts, 3 shifts per week
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis

- Parking: Free parking with pass provided at badge pickup; garages and lots available (garage clearance for average SUV/truck)
- Hurricane Season: June through November; employees may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Background Checks & Verifications
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Must include: SSN Trace, SC Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3
- Background check must be run within 90 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification required; diploma/transcripts accepted as placeholders if needed
- State-specific search for South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
Certifications
- ACLS, BLS, NIH Stroke Certification required for all RNs
- PALS required for MS and ER units (not CICU)
- TNCC required except for ER RNs
- Other certifications (NRP, EFM, Tech Certs) as applicable
- Certifications must be valid beyond 30 days from start date
Licensure
- SC RN license or Compact license required
- Primary source verification showing active, unencumbered license with no pending actions
- Walk-through (temporary) license process available for SC RN license if no background hits
- All licensure hits must be approved by facility
Health & Immunizations
- Physical exam within 90 days of start, updated annually, confirming ability to work without restrictions
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start; follow-up for positive results required
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID-19 vaccinations highly preferred but not required; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Respirator medical clearance (RespSafety) required annually
Facility Specific Documents & Orientation
- Completion of First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules prior to start (approx. 2-6 hours depending on location)
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge required
- Completion of facility confidentiality, security, contractor forms, and job description prior to start
- NetID form (time sensitive) must be completed within 24-48 hours of contract signing
- Physical assessment for sterile processors if applicable
References & Employment History
- Proof of 2 clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)
- At least one reference from the same unit is preferred
- Complete employment application including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Verification of last 3 clinical employers required
Additional Notes
- Radiation badge not required for CICU RN
- Facility may call off shifts but guarantees most scheduled hours
- Travelers should be prepared for possible emergency response duties during hurricane season (June-November)
- Local candidates may be considered with adjusted pay rates
