Job Requirements
- Licenses & Certifications:
- NBRC (RRT) required
- Indiana state license required
- ACLS (AHA or RQI acceptable)
- BCLS (AHA or RQI acceptable)
- RRT certification
- Experience:
- Minimum 18 months total experience
- At least 18 months recent ICU experience
- Education must be accredited through CoARC and regionally accredited through CHEA
- Shift: Every Other Week (EOW) required
- Floating: Must be willing to float between multiple facilities within the system
- First Time Travelers: Accepted
Important Facility Policies
- Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at IU Health facilities, except for Perioperative/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS).
Required Documentation & Compliance
Background Checks & Verifications
- Background check within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, sex offender registry, FACIS Level III
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification by third party (may be pending at start)
- Transcript or diploma (official copies only)
- Online license verification within 30 days of start
Certifications
- ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification as applicable (AHA or facility-approved equivalents)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement including HIPAA
- Tech Certification verification as applicable (within 30 days of start)
Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (not required for Techs or RRTs)
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent, 100% minimum score)
- Unit Competency Exam
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific compliance checklists and confidentiality agreements (time sensitive)
- Completion of mandatory RRT modules (22 modules) for RRT candidates prior to orientation
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask test within 12 months of start (specific approved respirators required)
- Proof of auto insurance if under Hospice specialty (not applicable here)
- Completion of self-study orientation and tests as required by specific IU Health facilities
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months of start
- Tuberculosis testing (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start
- TB Questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- Color Blind Exam (Ishihara or equivalent)
Employment History & References
- Minimum of 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years
- References must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above (team lead acceptable for Allied)
- Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps of 30+ days
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and updated annually
- Application must cover 7 years of history with all gaps accounted for
Summary
This travel contract position for a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) requires a minimum of 18 months ICU experience, Indiana licensure, and multiple certifications including ACLS and BLS. Candidates must be willing to float between facilities and complete extensive onboarding modules and compliance documentation. Immunizations and health screenings are strictly enforced, and first-time travelers are welcome. The contract length is approximately 13 weeks.
