Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical/Telemetry
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit & Patient Population
- Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit with 20 beds, including orthopedic patients
- Patient types include: Total Knee and Hip replacements, complicated orthopedic cases, pulmonary, sepsis, GI, endocrine, cardiac, renal, and psychiatric illnesses
- Unit split between two floors; one floor may have complex discharges with higher patient ratios at night
Staffing Ratios
- Day shift ratio: 1:5
- Night shift ratio: typically 1:6, occasionally 1:7 (rare)
- One floor may have ratios up to 1:10 at night for complex discharges
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and sometimes LPNs
Job Responsibilities
- Frequent floating required to meet hospital staffing needs, including to multiple units such as neuro, trauma, observation, and others within the hospital system
- Patient assignments include weekly assessments, vital checks, labs, and care coordination with support staff
- Drip medication management required on all floors
- EPIC electronic charting experience required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
- Valid Driver’s License
Facility & Work Environment
- 100% nicotine-free facility
- Scrubs mandatory: Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
- Parking permit available for approx. $55/month or daily parking options
Scheduling & Time Off
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat night)
- Up to two weeks of Return to Origin (RTO) allowed, must be submitted with application; additional RTO at manager discretion
- Holiday work requirement: must work 2 out of 3 major winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s)
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county and federal checks
- Ongoing monthly SAM and OIG checks required
- Education verification and primary source license verification required prior to start
- Drug screen within 60 days of start and annually thereafter
- Physical exam and fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap within last 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray with questionnaire annually
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (boosters if needed)
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters if needed)
- Flu vaccine preferred, documentation or declination required
- COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemptions accepted
- Annual skills checklist required
- Two professional references from the past 2 years required
Additional Notes
- Locals not accepted; candidate must live more than 100 miles from facility
- Eye exam required only for OR staff (not applicable here)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
