Registered Nurse – Critical Care Unit (CCU)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- Stepdown Critical Care (SDCC) is a 12-bed unit providing care for patients requiring a level of care between intensive care and progressive care units.
- Patient population includes trauma, surgery, transplant, lung disorders, and ventilated patients.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:3-4 on days and nights.
- Drip infusions are required on all floors.
- Nurses must be prepared to float frequently within scope to various units including trauma, neuro, observation, and others. Floating may include a different campus.
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs.
- Facility is 100% nicotine-free.
Schedule
- Night shift: 4 shifts per 8-day period, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM).
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period.
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for Nebraska. Pending license accepted if in hand before start; otherwise, booking will be delayed by six weeks.
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting.
- EPIC electronic charting experience required.
- Current certifications:
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) and NIH Stroke Certification strongly preferred.
- First-time travelers not accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
- Prior travel experience is required (implied by first-timers not accepted and experience requirements).
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county and federal checks.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
- Education verification and primary source license verification required prior to start.
- State-specific registry checks required.
- Annual physical exam and fit mask test (3M 1860 Small/Regular or 3M 1870+) required.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap within last 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray with TB questionnaire if positive history
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (measles, mumps, rubella)
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Varicella vaccines or positive titer
- Drug screen within 60 days of start and annually thereafter
- Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
- COVID vaccine preferred; exemptions accepted
- Annual skills checklist required.
- References: 2 work references from past 2 years required.
Additional Information
- Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo on back; facility provides info on obtaining scrubs after confirmation.
- Parking: Permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply.
- Locals not accepted; candidate must live more than 100 miles from facility.
- RTO (Request Time Off) blackout dates: June 11–22, 2026 (due to College World Series).
- Up to two weeks of RTO permitted; requests must be submitted with application. Additional RTO at manager discretion.
This position offers a challenging critical care environment with a focus on high-acuity patients and requires a highly experienced RN comfortable with frequent floating and advanced certifications.
