Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (Night Shift)

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Scrub Color: Royal Blue
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Floating: Not applicable
  • Orientation: Bi-weekly sessions
  • First-Time Travelers: Not accepted
  • Local Candidates: Accepted (within 75 miles)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Psychiatric experience
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks: Must be completed within 90 days of start date, including SSN trace, county searches for past 7 years, sex offender, international (if applicable), education verification, and others as required
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug test including THC within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 12 months
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with documentation for positive history)
    • Immunizations/vaccinations: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination not accepted), Polio vaccine or attestation
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required (no exemptions)
  • References: Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months, including at least one supervisor
  • Employment Application: Complete with 7 years of work history
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually
  • Competency Exam: Unit-specific competency exam required
  • Color Blind Testing: Not required for this role (not applicable)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must set up a facility-specific guest account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems.
  • Candidates must complete all required online modules prior to orientation.
  • Competency checklists (CBOs) must be completed within 3 weeks after start date. Failure to comply may result in contract cancellation or exclusion from future contracts.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training for ER and Behavioral Health includes an onsite module and in-person course during orientation, valid for 2 years.
  • Candidates must be prepared for every other weekend work and night shifts.
  • Local candidates within 75 miles are eligible but will be compensated at a lower rate (not included here).

This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses with psychiatric emergency experience who have prior travel contract experience and are licensed in North Carolina or hold a Compact RN license.
