Echo Tech/Cardiac Sonographer

Assignment Overview

• Travel/contract assignment in Non-Invasive Cardiology
• 17-week assignment
• Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break

Required Qualifications

• Echo Technologist experience within the last year
• 2 years of experience as an Echo Technologist
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
• BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
• PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support issued by American Heart Association
• CCI or ARMS Echo Certification
• High school diploma or GED or equivalent, plus completion of an approved echocardiogram training program
• 2 years of experience as a Technician I

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain echocardiogram equipment
• Inspect echocardiogram machine electrodes and related equipment for cleanliness and proper working order
• Report malfunctions and low supply levels to supervision
• Respond to STATs within 15 minutes
• Obtain echocardiograms as ordered
• Schedule patients in appropriate order and match patient ID to request
• Explain procedures to patients and position patients for testing
• Select and use the appropriate transducer and scanner settings
• Make video copy images as requested
• Document tests and prepare data/files for cardiologist review
• Reschedule testing when needed due to pleural-evacuation tube or respirator issues
• Develop print using automatic printer processing equipment
• Work with professional staff in procedures such as pericardiocentesis
• Maintain hospital standards, including policies, procedures, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control
• Perform clerical tasks, cross-train other departmental staff, maintain records/reports/files, answer phones, and relay information
• Identify equipment problems and recognize when clinical assistance from an MD or RN is needed
• Provide customer service with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy
