Registered Respiratory Therapist

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (8 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM


Job Description

  • Provide direct patient care and respiratory therapy procedures throughout the facility.
  • Perform procedures according to established policies and organize workload to ensure timely therapy completion.
  • Participate in respiratory care educational activities and departmental meetings.
  • Document patient care, records, charts, and reports accurately and promptly.
  • Respond to Code Blue and Rapid Response alerts in a timely manner.
  • Use clinical judgment and assessment skills to monitor patients and communicate with other caregivers.
  • Evaluate patient care and make recommendations as needed.
  • Specially trained therapists may perform Pulmonary Function tests, Methacholine Challenges, Hyperbaric Medicine, NICU and PICU care, and Asthma Education.
  • Maintain a professional image and excellent customer relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in South Carolina
  • Minimum of 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Proof of immunizations or titers (no declinations accepted) for:
    • MMR (2 immunizations or titer with lab report)
    • Hepatitis B (3 vaccinations or titer with lab report)
    • Varicella (2 immunizations or titer with lab report)
  • Tuberculosis screening:
    • 2-Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) within required timeframes
    • Annual TB questionnaire and additional testing if applicable
  • Influenza vaccine required during September through April (medical/religious exemptions considered case-by-case).
  • Fit test for respirators recommended within one year of start.
  • 10-panel drug screen completed within 30 days of start (rapid drug screen not accepted).

Professional Documentation Required

  • Valid driver’s license or state ID.
  • Social Security card.
  • Criminal background check within 60 days of start, covering last 7 years and including multiple searches (county, statewide, national, OIG, EPLS, OFAC, NSOP, SS trace, education verification).
  • Employment verification for the past 5 years.
  • Resume or professional profile (references preferred but not required).
  • Confirmation of assignment form as required by the employer.

Additional Information

  • Prior travel experience is not specified as a requirement.
  • Special training in hyperbaric medicine and pediatric/neonatal care is a plus but not mandatory.
  • The role requires working night shifts and responding promptly to emergency codes.
