Occupational Therapist (Contract) - New York, NY

Job Summary

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for evaluating and treating patients to facilitate rehabilitation and promote independence. This role involves developing and designing treatment plans for patients with physical, mental, and/or emotional disabilities, aiming to improve their ability to perform daily living and work activities independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct occupational therapy programs in hospital settings for patients impaired by illness, injury, or psychological/developmental issues.
  • Evaluate patients' physical and mental abilities and analyze medical data to set realistic rehabilitation goals.
  • Select educational, recreational, and social activities to help patients develop work and life-management skills.
  • Monitor and document patients' progress and maintain accurate therapy records.
  • Collaborate with social workers, nurses, and other disciplines in patient evaluations and rehabilitation.
  • Train and educate caregivers on patient care during and after therapy.
  • Recommend modifications to patients' work or living environments based on their needs and capabilities.
  • Develop and participate in health promotion programs and group activities to support client health and social adjustment.
  • Consult with rehabilitation teams to coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities such as vocational rehabilitation or social services.
  • Assist physicians biweekly in clinic evaluations and treatments.
  • Communicate with insurance companies to obtain approval for adaptive equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Contract Length

  • 9 weeks

Qualifications

  • Active New York State Occupational Therapy license
  • National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) preferred
  • 0-2 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist
  • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy (required)
  • Knowledge of diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation methods for physical and mental dysfunctions
  • Understanding of human behavior and performance
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and ability to inspire trust and respect in clients
