Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to a designated group of patients and their families, applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice within a stepdown unit setting.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver patient care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and evaluate care plans.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, transitions, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Role model Relationship Centered Care practices such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, Medication Review, and Discharge Wrap Up.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns as needed.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to patient safety.
- Participate in process improvement, peer review, and quality initiatives.
- Collaborate on quality improvement projects and nursing research.
- Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
- Escalate safety hazards following institutional protocols.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality and performance improvement.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and inventory management with leadership.
- Escalate material or staffing shortages appropriately.
- Use patient-focused, cost-effective approaches to resource utilization.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
- Maintain a professional image and communicate with respect and empathy.
- Apply ethical principles in decision-making.

Requirements
- Current New York State RN License
- BLS Certification
- Minimum 2 years RN experience
- At least 2 years experience in cardiology, telemetry, and VAD care
- EPIC experience highly preferred
- Travel experience (1 year) preferred for travel positions; not required for per diem
Contract Length
- 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
