Job Summary

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards in a hospital setting. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process.

Essential Duties

• Participate in identifying and meeting own learning needs; attend education programs as needed.
• Use patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
• Assess readiness to learn and developmental level of patients and their families/caregivers.
• Identify expected patient outcomes and participate in revising plans of care with guidance.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to evaluate patient care and communicate relevant information to ensure continuity of care.
• Demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
• Perform bedside point of care testing as required.
• Follow healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
• Organize and prioritize care based on patient and family needs.
• Consult appropriate resources timely for patients with complex care issues or high discharge risk.
• Develop professional growth goals with assistance and participate in unit goals and performance improvement activities.
• Use effective communication systems and promote cost-effective care.
• Provide feedback to co-workers and promote a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment.
• Recognize and prioritize patient care needs from complex data, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
• Assess and anticipate discharge needs; develop relationships with families to support advocacy.
• Collaborate with patients and families to prepare or update care plans, utilizing multidisciplinary resources.
• Address cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
• Prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
• Engage in research by reading relevant journals and contributing ideas/questions for practice improvement.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience
