Job Summary
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily operation and clinical supervision of the nursing staff within the Inpatient Behavioral Health Service. This role involves clinical and administrative oversight to ensure quality patient care aligned with regulatory standards and evidence-based clinical management.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the unit in collaboration with the Director.
- Provide clinical supervision and administrative leadership on a 24-hour basis.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory agency codes, and standards (NY State Office of Mental Health, NY Department of Health, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Administration for Children’s Services).
- Coordinate interdisciplinary performance improvement activities and utilize benchmarks.
- Prepare and review clinical and statistical reports for regulatory compliance.
- Monitor admissions, discharges, and discharge planning for appropriate clinical management.
- Manage budgeting, supply, and inventory maintenance.
- Ensure patient care meets PCS Scope of Service, Philosophy of Nursing, and ethical standards.
- Provide administrative coverage for the Nursing Department as needed.
- Participate in continuing education to enhance administrative and clinical skills.
- Implement innovative best practices in patient care.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and contribute to HCAHPS development with the team.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years as a Registered Nurse.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in psychiatry.
- Minimum 2 years in a leadership role.
- Strong critical thinking, math, and computer skills; effective team player.
- Experience monitoring and facilitating compliance with NYSDOH, JCAHO, and other regulatory bodies.
- Knowledge of quality improvement models, CQI methods, and Root Cause Analysis.
- Demonstrated leadership, budgetary, and administrative skills.
- Commitment to professional growth and development.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Competency in applicable clinical specialty.
- Ability to use electronic health record systems and relevant healthcare/billing systems.
- Ability to read, write, see, and hear English.
- Demonstrates respect and professionalism in all interactions.
