Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Intermediate Care (Travel)

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Start Date: ASAP
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Unit & Work Environment

• Unit: Aspirus Wausau Short Stay Unit (Intermediate Care)
• 8-bed observation unit with a patient ratio of 1:4
• Float to all inpatient units as needed, including Intermediate Care (IMC) and Critical Treatment Unit (CTU)
• High admission and discharge volume; average patient stay up to 48 hours
• Patient conditions include anemia, cellulitis, COPD, dehydration, pre/post-op urology and GI, and drips (Cardiac Cardizem, Nitro, Insulin, Heparin)

Shift & Scheduling

• 12-hour day/night variable shifts
• On-call/call-back requirements: can be low censused and put on call; minimum 2-hour call-back
• Weekend/Holiday: Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• 36 hours of low census unbillable hours eligible; call-back pay applies if called in during these hours
• GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week
• Flu season policy: Travelers declining flu and COVID vaccinations must wear a mask at all times

Requirements

• Licenses/Certifications:

  • Wisconsin RN License
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) required
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) highly preferred
  • Must pass an EKG exam during compliance

• Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience in specialty
  • Prior travel experience required: Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment

• Skills:

  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips
  • Background in observation units or medical-surgical/telemetry units preferred
  • Strong work ethic, resilience, adaptability to change
  • Ability to work independently, manage tasks timely, and collaborate with team and ancillary staff
  • Positive attitude and flexibility with constant changes during shifts

Additional Notes

• Scrub colors: any color allowed
• Must be located outside a 50-mile radius from the facility (radius rule)

This position is ideal for experienced travel nurses with strong intermediate care skills, prior travel experience, and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced observation unit.
