Job Description

• Pediatric Open Heart Certified Surgical Technician (CST) with 2 years of pediatric open heart experience in a large Cardiovascular Surgery OR.
• Position involves scrubbing for adult cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgeries when not assigned to pediatric open heart cases.
• On-call required for nights and weekends with a 30-minute response time.

Required Certifications & Credentials

• BLS (AHA certified)
• Current license with primary source verification within 30 days prior to assignment start.
• Completion of Ascension Specialty Exam (minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years).
• Completion of Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; updated yearly, minimum 80% score).
• Completion of Ascension Surgical Technologist Contract Worker Onboarding Education Attestation.
• Forward-facing badge photo (white or blue background, no alterations).
• Valid Driver's License/State ID (must not be expired and must meet address requirements).
• Ascension Profile (resume or professional profile).
• At least two professional references.
• Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, Employment Verification, OIG Search, National Sex Offender, and others (updated annually or after breaks in service).
• Employment verification for the past seven years.
• Education verification relevant to clinical work (within 90 days of start).
• Confirmation of assignment documentation on agency letterhead.

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Proof of two MMR vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted).
• Fit Test (preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite; updated annually).
• Documentation of Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination.
• Influenza vaccine recommended during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement.
• Positive IGRA or PPD results, negative chest X-ray within one year, and annual TB questionnaire.
• 2 Step PPD OR IGRA within required timeframes.
• Proof of Varicella immunity or vaccination (no declinations accepted).
• Valid Tdap vaccination (valid for 10 years, no declinations accepted).
• Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
• 12 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually.

Additional Requirements

• Completion of Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical specialty competency, updated annually).
• Post-assignment evaluations may be required.
• Legal documentation for any name changes if applicable.

Summary

This travel position requires a highly skilled Certified Surgical Technician with pediatric open heart experience and the flexibility to assist in adult cardiac and vascular surgeries. Candidates must meet strict credentialing, health, and compliance requirements to work within the Ascension Health system at St Vincent Indianapolis. On-call availability and rapid response capability are essential.
