Job Description

• Perform pre-analytic and post-analytic procedures on biological specimens in the laboratory to assist healthcare providers with diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and prevention of disease.
• Maintain competence in all histology practices through advanced training and education.
• Responsible for specimen/material receipt, preparation, archival/retrieval, validation testing, and troubleshooting according to department policies.
• Collaborate with physicians, clients, and staff to ensure superior patient care and represent the laboratory professionally.

Shift Details

• 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts
• Shift hours: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
• On-call availability Tuesday through Saturday

Required Qualifications

• Valid Histology Technologist license in California
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Histology Technologist
• Histology Technologist experience within the last year

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year background check required within 6 months of start
• Various federal and state screenings including EPLS, HHS/OIG, FACIS Level 3, Sex Offender Search, OFAC Sanctions List, and Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List (as applicable)
• Education verification required (highest level achieved)
• Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to California law)
• Physical exam required within 1 year of start
• TB screening and annual renewal required
• Immunizations required or proof of immunity for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
  • Hepatitis B (series or declination)
  • Varicella (chickenpox)
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30) or signed declination
• Fit mask test and respiratory safety clearance as applicable

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• CCRN (Critical Care RN)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
• IV Certification (Venipuncture)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
• NIH Stroke Certification
• Other specialty certifications as required by position

Competency Exams

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required for some units

Documentation and Compliance

• Must complete and sign facility-specific documents including job description acknowledgment, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, and others prior to start
• Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps
• Work history verification required for up to 7 years
• References: 2 professional references required for clinical/allied/per diem acute care roles

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
• Candidates with religious exemptions for vaccines or facial hair must complete specific exemption forms and obtain approval
• Some positions may require on-site EKG testing after start
