Location: York, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work primarily in the Emergency Department (ED) with a Level I Trauma Center designation.
  • Shift: 3 PM to 3 AM, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Floating required, including possible rotation to Emergency Transitional Care Unit (ETCU).
  • Must work 1 of 2 major holidays (either July 4th or Memorial Day) plus surrounding days.
  • Weekend schedule: every 3rd weekend.
  • No call requirements.
  • Blocked schedules are not approved.

Unit Description

  • ED is a 74-bed department with a 3-bed trauma bay and a secure behavioral health unit.
  • ETCU is a 22-bed telemetry-capable unit for patients awaiting further testing, consultation, or inpatient beds.
  • ETCU is not an express admission or holding unit; care continues after initial ED interventions.
  • Med/surg nurses provide inpatient-level care in ETCU and may be cross-trained for ED tasks.
  • May care for COVID-19 patients.
  • Tobacco and fragrance-free facility.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Pennsylvania.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with Level I Trauma patients.
  • One completed travel assignment in nursing.
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Ability to float to ETCU as needed.

Time Off / Return to Work

  • Return to work (RTO) maximum of 7 days.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and fingerprinting (PA FBI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start; can start with results pending but must be finalized within 45 days).
  • Education verification (highest level).
  • Professional references (2 within last 3 years).
  • Employment application or most recent resume.
  • Skills checklist (annual).
  • Performance evaluations completed onsite during assignment.
  • Photo for badge (passport-style, professional).
  • Physical exam within 90 days of start, signed by MD, DO, PA, or NPT.
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test (QGold or TSpot within 90 days)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: vaccines or positive titers required
    • Hepatitis B: positive titer or full vaccine series plus declination if applicable
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
    • COVID-19 vaccine or exemption/declination accepted
  • Drug testing: Negative 9-panel within 1 year (Aya requirement only).
  • Respiratory safety clearance within 1 year, renewed annually.
  • State-specific clearances:
    • Pennsylvania Child Abuse Search (within 5 years)
    • Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Fingerprint Results (within 5 years)
    • Pennsylvania PATCH Search Results (within 1 year, must be finalized prior to start)
  • Completion of required online learning modules and new hire orientation.
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing and competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) recommended/required as per unit guidelines.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP) as applicable.

Additional Notes

  • Manager interview required after clinical screening.
  • Floating to ETCU may require med/surg nursing skills.
  • Facility is tobacco and fragrance-free; candidates should be notified prior to submission.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, trauma and emergency care environment.

This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department RNs with trauma experience and prior travel assignments who are comfortable with night shifts, floating, and working in a Level I Trauma Center environment.
